Dear Mathematicians,
I hope you
had a great summer and are rested for the Algebraic challenges of this year. We
will be using a new text book this year so unfortunately that means your older
siblings or friends cannot lend you a 2nd copy for
home. The school has gone to a new format for the teacher websites called blackboard.com.
When you sign on to blackboard, Algebra 1B should come up as a course you are
enrolled in. If it does not you need to let me know. I will link
blackboard to my website http://teacherweb.ftl.pinecrest.edu/wingjoa/
. The website will contain the syllabus, assignment guide,
links to related topics, reviews for tests and exams. We will be doing
some webquests so we will be perusing the internet at times when working on
specific topics.
A scientific calculator will be fine for this course
(one that has the sin, cos, tan buttons on it). Some of you may want to
move into the graphing calculator mode which means you will want to get the TI83+ edition. Just remember that I will wipe your saved memory before
major exams if you do have a graphing calculator. We will be loading the
geometers' sketchpad onto your computers as it has graphing capabilities and
you will get some training in using the program before the course of geometry.
We will begin the course by reviewing some of the skills you
have learned in Algebra I-A. I know you
are up for the challenge and look forward to an excellent year.
