Classroom Protocol
American Government & Politics AP
1. Be in your seat on time.
A. If you are late you will receive a tardy. You are permitted FIVE
tardies a trimester. Starting with the sixth one, you will receive
a work detail (of one hour) for every tardy.
B. If you are late for class, please come into the room as
unobtrusively as possible - you are not the star here, I am!
(Good manners would have you knock on the door gently, come in
saying "excuse me please" and take your seat).
C. Before leaving class (or later in the day), it is also considered
good manners to let the teacher know why you were not on time.
D. You also need to check with the teacher to inquire whether or not
attendance has been submitted; if it has you will need to present
yourself to the Upper School Office so that they can correct the
attendance roster.
2. Dress appropriately
A. All Student Handbook dress rules will apply in this class - no
exceptions!
B. EVEN IS YOU HAVE RECEIVED A WORK DETAIL EARLIER IN THE
DAY, YOU WILL RECEIVE ONE IN THIS CLASS FOR WHAT IS
CONSIDERED BY YOUR HANDBOOK AS INAPPROPRIATE ATTIRE.
C. If you cannot live with this rule, either - dress appropriately - or,
transfer out of this class.
3. Absences
A. If you know in advance that you will be absent from a particular class,
good manners would have you tell the instructor prior to being
absent.
B. All unexcused absences will be dealt with in accordance with the
Student Handbook.
C. All make-up of tests/assignments will also be in accordance with
the Student Handbook. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES
MAY RESULT IN AT LEAST 10 POINTS BEING DEDUCTED FROM
THE MAKE-UP WORK.
D. If, for some strange reason, you do not take a test on time, 5
points will be deducted from that part of the test not taken when
assigned.
4. Be prepared for class. (Successful students always are!)
A. You need only bring the textbook to class when instructed to do so.
B. Three ring notebooks are REQUIRED at all times. Successful
students are well organized and if you are not already, I will help
you become so.
C. Bring something with which to write.
D. Complete assignments/tests on time; failure to do so will
demonstrate your lack of interest in this course and may cause
you pain.
5. ALWAYS BE HONEST AND UP-FRONT
A. As you may have already heard, I have a real problem with
students who cheat and/or lie. I simply cannot work with people
whom I cannot trust.
AS LONG AS I HAVE TAUGHT AP CLASSES, I HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE
POLICY OF REMOVING MY AP APPROVAL (WHICH ONE NEEDS TO BE
ADMITTED TO THE CLASS), FOR A STUDENT SUSPECTED OF
CHEATING AND/OR LYING. IN OTHER WORDS, REQUESTING THE
ADMINISTRATION REMOVE THE STUDENT FROM MY CLASS.
WHILE THE REQUEST MIGHT NOT ALWAYS BE GRANTED, IT WILL
ALWAYS BE MADE SO THAT ALL INVOLVED WILL KNOW OF MY
STRONG VIEWS IN THIS REGARD.
6. Grading will be in accordance with the Student Handbook.
7. All tests will be on Social Science testing days only - NO EXCEPTIONS.
Part I, multiple-choice questions, will be on one day and Part II, essay,
will be on the next testing day.
SOCIAL SCIENCE TESTING DAYS
First Trimester = Monday and/or Wednesday
Second Trimester = Tuesday and/or Thursday
Third Trimester = Wednesday and/or Friday
There will be only FOUR test a trimester - each having both Part I &
Part II, and a trimester exam at the end of the first and second
trimesters. The exam will count twice as much as a test in the
trimester average.
8. ALL STUDENTS WILL READ AT LEAST 500 PAGES OF COLLATERAL
READING A TRIMESTER.
A. Each trimester you are to report all collateral reading ONE WEEK
prior to the trimester exam (or one week prior to the AP Exam
in the case of the third trimester).
B. Title, author, number of pages read and a synopsis of the
reading will be typed and submitted on at least three pages.
C. Failure to complete collateral reading will result in a zero
being added into your trimester average.
D. Late reports will subject your trimester average being lowered
by as many as FIVE points.
E. All collateral reading must be from material of the trimester
involved (please see syllabus).
9. ALL STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE AT LEAST ONE CIVIC PROJECT
EACH TRIMESTER. (Please see ICI Project Activity Sheet for
suggestions).
A. All projects will be submitted at least one week prior to the
trimester exam (or one week prior to the AP exam in the case
of the third trimester).
B. Failure to submit a project will result in a zero being added to
your trimester average.
C. Late reports will subject your trimester average being lowered by
as many as FIVE points.
10. DO NOT BRING FOOD OR DRINK into the classroom - causes bugs! I
do not like bugs....
11. You are expected to use good manners and judgment during this
class. This teacher likes it, requires it and will think more highly of
you as a result of your using it.
12. Extra help is always available upon request or during the following times:
MONDAYS 3:45 P.M.
WEDNESDAYS 7:15 A.M.

GET IT IN RETURN.
