Advanced Placement European History

AP European History begins with an examination of the Renaissance, the Age of Exploration, and the Protestant Reformation, developments that nudged Europe into the modern era.  The course concludes with the collapse of the Soviet Empire.  During their examination of major of events students gain an understanding of the rise and decline of the European Age and the impact of Europeans in the world.  Students study historical change to better comprehend the world in which they live and to which they will ultimately contribute.

Evaluations:  Students take a series of tests and quizzes, all of which are in the essay format.  Objective quizzes are taken for AP examination practice and do not influence grading throughout this three trimester course.  Map quizzes provide insights into political geography.  Students also have the opportunity to write a series of take-home essays, for which they may use the text, class notes, and selected additional sources.  Students must take the advanced placement examination in Modern European History at the end of the  year. Failing to take this examination will result in the loss of the AP designation on transcripts.
