BALLET CURRICULUM PINE CREST SCHOOL |
|
Classes in dance are offered in the curriculum at Pine Crest starting in Pre-primary. From the Pre-primary through the 3rd grade, dance is offered as a full-class activity. The student is introduced to various exercises that will stretch and strengthen their muscles, develop motor skills, and promote musicality. For students in the 4th and 5th grades, ballet is offered twice a week during PE time. Class size is limited and the students are allowed to enroll in the beginning of the school year. This is the beginning of the student's formal ballet training. The student is introduced to barre work with an emphasis on good posture and placement. Simple exercises in the center provide the basis for adagio work, turns and pirouettes, and various jumps. Students in the 6th grade take ballet three times a week during PE time. This class is a continuation of the 5th grade class. The extra class time provides more time to introduce and work on new steps. In the 7th and 8th grade levels of ballet, the students are working at a beginning/intermediate level. These classes meet daily for one class period. The students are tested each trimester on their vocabulary and syllabus knowledge. These tests are in addition to their participation and skill development grades. In the 9th - 12th grades, ballet is offered on two different levels. Beginning/intermediate ballet meets daily for one period. The students at this level are also tested each trimester on their vocabulary and syllabus knowledge in addition to their participation and skill development grades. Advanced ballet meets three times a week for a double class period. Currently, there are three sections of this class offered. Ballet is studied at a much more advanced level than the other levels and a student may only enroll in this class with teacher approval.
